It looks like ‘Harry Potter’ himself has admitted that he too was not strong enough to resist the temptation of alcohol in his teenage years. Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the famous character created by J.K. Rowling, has come clean regarding his past alcohol issues.
In a feature from the Daily Mail, Radcliffe, now 22, confessed his addiction to alcohol in the latest GQ UK interview. The British actor claims he was so “reliant” on alcohol while filming the Harry Potter series during his teenage years. “I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.”
The actor, who starred in the blockbuster movie franchise since he was 11, acknowledged he was lucky enough during the times that he was so hooked on booze as there hasn’t been so many captured moments from the paparazzi that would have revealed his dark side.
With the scheduled release of the last ‘Harry Potter’ installment on July 15, Radcliffe tells the mag that he has been sober since August of 2010. He has slowed down on his life immensely saying he’d rather sit at home and be with his girlfriend than go to parties and have a couple of drinks which he isn’t skillful enough to handle.
The star also knows how to handle his massive fortune (48 million pounds) that he gained as Harry Potter. He has this realization to share to other celebrities. “The main thing about having money is it means you don’t have to worry about it. And that for me is a lovely thing. It’s not for fast cars and hookers.”
Daniel is slated to appear next on the Broadway production of ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ and other projects after bidding goodbye to his famous character.
